And what makes you suggest that, other than it happens to fit your already preconceived notions?


It is just a hypothesis.

And he already failed. Look at his results. The Pentium III shifted from having a ~40% advantage to having a ~90% advantage - that's not a 2x difference.

I haven't taken time to think about the conclusions of the test. I could of course use some hints from Kap about his interpretation.

It is these compilers and other middleware that will be optimized for the platform. All you have to do is continue to hit the compile button.

If the compiler can generate EXE that is smart enough to generate several sets of code, detect which CPU is in use, and use the code optimized for the correct CPU, meaning I don't have to worry my pretty little head about this stuff, I will use it.

It would be crazy of someone to deliver app optimized for P4 in exclusion to anyting else (Pii, Piii, Athlon, K6), since P4 is in single digits of the total installed base, and as you said in another post, the future notebooks will not be based on the P4 core.
