International Boxing Federation president Marian Muhammad said Mundine's "despicable" comments about the attacks remained etched in the minds of Americans. "People that I talked to today said: 'He got his ass whupped and that's good'," Muhammad told AAP from her New Jersey headquarters. Mundine, a Muslim convert, made international headlines and infuriated many in the US in October when he said America had brought the September 11 terrorist attacks on itself. But while many in the US were outraged by the comments, the IBF would treat the outspoken boxer as fairly as it treated other boxers. Mundine could get another shot at a world title if he earned it, Muhammad said. "I think if Mr Mundine was to fight somebody in the rankings and earn his way back in there, why would we deny him that?" she said. "I don't like what he said. I thought it was despicable, disgusting - but it is not the business of the IBF to try to alienate anyone's right to run their mouth, whether it is good or bad." Mundine went into last weekend's super-middleweight fight in Germany against IBF champion Sven Ottke ranked No.14 in the IBF rankings. Muhammad said Mundine's knockout loss would likely result in the Australian dropping out of the IBF rankings. "Mr Mundine was in the bottom of the ratings and the ratings chairman would most likely take him out of the ratings completely," she said. Muhammad, who was a Muslim for 31 years before switching to Christianity in 1995, said the US boxing fraternity had not forgiven Mundine for his comments. "I think it would have been difficult for him to fight in the US initially. It would have taken him time to ingratiate himself again," Muhammad said.
