Paul, Your friend's virus sounds like the one I got nailed with a few weeks ago called the "Sircam" virus. It sends itself out to your email addresses attached to files it pulls randomly from your computer. The addressee sees your name and downloads the file. It can be very embarrassing if your private files get sent to people you know.
