They used to hang people in Mount Eden gaol which is next door to Auckland Grammar School, and the students could see. We used to have near zero murders per year, but now we have many, many, many for gratuitous ends [not crimes of passion or madness]. I would not want to see, nor push my children to see

MQ, I can not comment with specifics on the events at Mt Eden jail, or its surrounds. I have not lived thereabouts for 6 or so years.

However, I would like to note that all of my friends in NZ (auckland, hamilton, whangarei, te kuiti, te awamutu, wellington, taupo, dunedin, christchurch) have expressed no fear at all in living in NZ (Aotearoa) in a relatively crime free society.
