Ken re: SEC warnings on "pro forma" earnings

I'd rather turn this warning upside down. I personally feel that the "Goodwill" issues are a horrible concept because they turn the CURRENT balance sheets and operating statements even more into a MEASURE OF THE LONG GONE PAST instead of the current situation. To me pooling of interest made very much sense. Goodwill writedown doesn't. As an investor I'm always looking for clues for the PRESENT and the FUTURE. Having current EPS hiked down because a 3 year ago acquisition produced goodwill to be written off does appear odd to me.

I'm not sure about tax treatment but if it's the way I think it is - then Uncle Sam's IRS is pretty happy about the fact that pooling of interest is gone. EPS are higher out of this (and if goodwill isn't written off anymore in the future)and the corporate tax rate base is increased. GRRR - better they kept it the way it was..

still think the Russians are looking to pressure OPEC and cozy up to the US..One,two punch, and they gain market share which they will gladly take for future production..
of course, there is still that little matter about a pipeline<g>..but we may be taking care of that problem now with the US military..;^)
