teevee, if i use the term gringo it will indeed be as a genuine term of endearment, it is that now generally, having lost over the years its pejorative sting [it comes originally as a corruption of griego, which means greek, it's that old, it was applied to invaders of the Iberian peninsula one presumes], it is now like negros calling each other nigger, likely one day soon anyone of whatever race may do so ... call me a greaser, hoser, who cares, i'll just take it as humour, because if meant as anything else it would simply be self-marking of the speaker as an utter idiot, and in such a case there would be other points to address, or just a shrug and walk past The word that retains an edge is güero, but the güeros don't understand it so it's somewhat pointless to use it on them ... means 'blonde' literally, 'white' in the US sense of 'honky mofo whitey' ... but even here, oh death where is thy sting, it is possible to be amused on the streets of say San Cristóbal by some stunningly gorgeous young swedish gringota tripping down the street in a t-shirt with a prominent 'Comemos Los Güeros' on it ...
