7:57AM National Semi (NSM) 31.35: Lehman cautious on NSM, expects company to lower guidance due to weak demand outside of wireless, and believes that co did not build sufficient backlog for rev growth in Q3. Valuation does not reflect a delayed recovery in fundamentals.

7:55AM Intel (INTC) 32.86: CSFB says that recent channel checks reinforce the view that Intel will guide to the upper end of its revenue range in tomorrow's update call, and perhaps even above the range; nevertheless cautions that Q4 consumer-oriented demand pop is in the stock and maintains HOLD ratings - sees better buying opportunity after Q4.

7:23AM United Micro (UMC) 8.37: Company completes its $302 mln zero-coupon convertible bond offering. According to traders, Bloomberg reporting that company thinks its Q4 loss could be lower than previously projected.

6:42AM : FTSE +1.18%, DAX +2.63%:European stocks posting impressive gains this morning. Boost coming from chip stocks such as Infineon and ASML. Higher DRAM prices and favorable comments from UBS both influential drivers of the run-up.

6:41AM : Nikkei +2.50%, Hang Seng +2.20%:Asian stocks higher. Samsung Electronics helped Korea's Kospi earn its biggest gain in eleven months. Samsung rose its daily 15% limit on news that it was able to raise its contract price for chips.
