You are aware that Oracle has released only a "developer" version at this point, right?

That means it is a beta, not yet ready for actual applications.

Paul,

Two VERY HIGH END server and workstation software packages - Oracle 9i and ANSYS - were announced yesterday for the ITanium platform.

More announcements, commitments, press releases? Where is the beef?

What platform do you think these were developed on?

Good guess - ITanium.

For all I know on Sun. When they had the source code, they threw it at the loaner Itanium sitting in the corner (sent free from Intel), and the thing eventually compiled without errors.

Now, Oracle is going to provide "early access to the Oracle9i Database for the Itanium processor." This thing is a beta at best.

The Itanium version "allows software programmers to start testing and developing with the new version of the database."

Hmmm... An announcement that the programmers can start testing a beta software running on pilot hardware. You guys are easy to please. Will one of you marry me?

Joe

PS: Who is ANSYS, and will they be here after a few years of bleeding red ink in their Itanium venture? You know that Itanium is hazardous to financial health of anyone who touches it.
