Joe why does wbmw keep saying that the P3 has 3 decoders and the P4 one but you say they have the same decoder? Which one is right? If the P4 has one decoder and performs as well as a 3 decoder P3 then the decoder runs at full 2Ghz speed. If they both have 3 decoders then the P4 decoder seems to be running at 1/2 of the 2Ghz clock speed.

Joe, a section of code that does tons of pipeline flushes will obviously run faster on a shorter pipeline. Regarding how fast the decode logic works, Kap's program proves nothing.
