And, I suspected as much, but didn't know, that terrorists attacks since Oslo have killed more Israelis than in in the 45 years before that.

Meanwhile, Arafat on Tuesday fired a senior police officer for releasing prisoners from a jail in the West Bank town of Tulkarem without orders, Palestinian security sources told United Press International.

The sources said that Arafat sacked Col. Mohamed Awadallah for releasing Hamas and Islamic Jihad prisoners who had recently been arrested.

However, Awadallah told other police officers that he released the prisoners because he was afraid that the jail would be targeted by the Israeli military.

Israel in the past has targeted Palestinian jails in attacks.
