My retired parents live well below the poverty line on SS & a tiny pension. They are 77 & 70, have no savings and have 20% equity in their house. Along with these zealots you apparently know about, they continue to get further squeezed by the false CPI numbers the Administration's urgent need to refund billions to corporations to stimulate stock option plans for executives (via Alt. Min Tax refunds, airline "bailouts", plunge protection team, Bush's tax "relief", etc.), and also the push to eliminiate SS increases altogether for the good of the country['s wealthy]. At least my parents aren't seeing their CD income shot to pieces as they have no savings. I can't imagine how hard the squeeze is for those retire folks who had a tiny next egg of 50 grand or so who have seen their annual interest income drop from about $3000 last year to just $1000 this year.
