Hi DOB, Very true. Magic Lantern is already in use, btw, and you're right about initial prevention; there's virus software in the UK already. But it's a moving target, once the gov't decides to make citizens targets for automated surveillance, it'll happen.

The addit'l problem if this kind of tech is that secret deals can be made with, say, Microsoft, to conceal intrusion from all virus-checkers. This would be difficult to detect. The only way is a network sniffer to thoroughly examine all packets going in and out of your machine, etc., and even then it's possible to disguise packets.

A better public debate needs to happen on policy, because the tech is irreversible, only DISCLOSURE of secret government activity has any chance of keeping public servants under control of the citizens, rather than vice-versa, as it is at the moment.
