Nadine,All the conditions you describe, which have bred up a large number of extremists among the Arabs, do not exist among the Israelis.

Perhaps not all the conditions but a good number, no? There is a dead Israeli president as evidence. Seems to have been an intelligence failure here. But of course, you are right, they don't have the numbers.

Nonetheless, there is a struggle between those who want Israel to have a secular government and society and those who want it to have theocratic government/society. It appears the theocratists don't have the numbers but in some instances do seem to have fanatic focus and are not averse to violence where they can get away with it.

I think I was led to write the last paragraph because of the parallel between them and other groups who insist on rigid interpretation of passages in a book as means of obtaining revealed truth universally applicable, both to them and, particularly, to others.
