I was just explaining this on another thread. Use the language of debt (Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors). Christ pays our debt for us. But now we are indebted to Christ. He says: "Don't worry about it", and writes it off the books. Why couldn't the Father have just written it off in the first place?

On the matter of Christ assuming the burden of sin, thanks for finding me a couple of texts. I do not think that our understanding of that differs too much, I am not sure. I think that when He cries "Eli, Eli, lema sabbacthani", we are to understand that He has experienced the depth of our despair, precisely because of taking on the burden of sin.
