T,
I went to Best Buy today. No XP boxes on the shelf only T-birds. You can order an XP from Compaq, Micron or HP right in the store. Some kid was ordering a Compaq XP then the salesman tried to sell him the Best Buy Extended warranty to the point of lying about the Compaq warranty so he probably screwed up the deal.
Best Buy is selling some XP boxes from Alienware on line.
Another large retail chain down here, BrandsMart, is stocking Alienware. These appear to use an Antec SX1030 server case with a customized face plate and come in painted colors. They use good parts like Plextor burners and high end nVidia video but seem over priced.

Anyway, something is definitely strange when it comes to XPs on retail shelves. I did see one XP1800 at Circuit City last week.

I did manage to talk one guy out of a P4 w/SDRAM but for the most part people are oblivious to the performance of P4 w/SDRAM. They only know Mhz sells...
Same guy said Dell is advertising P4s w/DDR but I haven't looked into it yet...
