Looking at religion only through eyes focused on the present is virtually equivalent to being blind, as you aren't really seeing much. If we lived in the times of the Crusades, I guess you would have a different view of Islam and Christianity Exactly! And my point is we are not living in the times of the Crusades! Christianity (the religion) has been sanitized to reflect the basics of Christianity (the belief). Islam (the Religion) also needs to go through a similar sanitation process to reflect the basics of Islam (the belief - as you and other educated moderates have come to integrated with your everyday life). The way I look at is as follows: Islam (the religion) consists of Quran (and books such as Hadith). These books contain verses that absolutely are out of date, violent in nature and do not make sense with the 21st century civilization standards and beyond). And I do not buy the spin that one has to know the Arabic language well to understand them. That is illogical. Look at Christianity. It has been translated in every language you can think of, and yet its message is identical throughout this planet! Islam (the belief) however seems to consist of a set of peaceful, loving logical frameworks for a Muslim to live his life. Islam (the belief) is - in my humble view - far far different than Islam (the religion). If Muslims can somehow separate Islam (the belief) from Islam (the religion in its present form) and come up with a new version of "the religion" that reflects more of the belief" , then we will have a case simillar to post Old Testament Christianity. The word of God is really simple and should not take a rocket scientist with 10 PHDs in the Arabic language to understand! Good Thoughts, Good Words, and Good Deeds should not take a complicated book to describe! After all we - as human beings - have been given the greatest gift that God could have ever given us besides our lives - namely our intellect ! And our intellect should be suffice for us to know easily what Good Thoughts, Good Words, and Good Deeds are! Regards,
