I think you are missing the point as well. The ADD instruction gets executed 1 time per loop iteration, as is the randomization function and lookup. But to do the lookup, each single case needs to be examined, which is the variable here. What you and Tenchusatsu are stressing over is basically a constant, and pretty much irrelevant, when the case statement has 1000s of cases, each one of which needs to be examined, each of which takes about 3.5 clock cycles on Piii, and about 7 cycles on P4.
