It is my opinion that, yes, it is acceptable for a Muslim to look deeper into the English translation of the Quran and perhaps question certain things (in the translation). After going to many scholarly works to try to better understand the proper English translation of a Quranic verse, one should accept what their research has found. Allah knows best.
