I suppose if you have the systems in place to remove those 50 people without missing a beat, then that's something that should be done....don't you?

I'm not a Luddite. ORCL's systems are designed to reduce reliance on information being miscommunicated by passing from person to person. So, why not eliminate some if you can?

The biggest problem in my industry is the overreliance on sales people. The assumption is if you have more on the street, the more money you'll make. The stupidity of this is so evident that it boggles the mind. 1. If you think this way, it's likely your competitors do, so you're paying high salaries (commissions) to the same relative percentage of foot soldiers....hence, not really generating more revs. 2. A market is what it is. More salespeople don't shake money from a market when its limits are set.

That said, if a company can achieve better sales and margins by improving its capital base through software, it's probably a good thing to try. My industry prefers to spend on bodies.
