We've carved from this land a significant culture of contribution from all our varied parts.

Well, for the sake of historical accuracy, most of that carving was from the land occupied by the Native Americans.

Of course, they were busy carving out their own nations from each other's territories as well, so it was a matter of the more powerful culture dominating the weaker.

And that's not any different that any other nation-state has done, including the Israelis and Arabs.
