Well maybe what you are saying is there is difficulties in Islam that is difficult to reconcile. Some verses validating self defense, but other stopping innocent victims from being attacked. Let me give you an example:

Israel owns the land in the West Bank, which the Palestinians think Israel has taken from them, which they have in war. Hence, the self defense verses kick in as valid way to get it back. But on that land, there are innocent people that didn't partake in taking the land all those years back. So by taking the land back they truly think is theirs, they must attack innocent victims.

Do you see the difficulty?
