Of course energy can be created and destroyed, though those words are just silly language we invent which have little meaning in the busy world of black holes and microwave background radiation [which is really CDMA-style talking among all the sentience of existence - a giant cocktail party in the sky - SETI is looking in the wrong place]. You shouldn't believe that silly energy theory made up by a few wacko scientists making up stories to explain what the heck is going on - though they do show some objective reality which other people can also witness, unlike the theories of the mad mystics of Osama, Omar, Jerry Falwell and GeorgeW. Mqurice PS: Saying energy cannot be created or destroyed is a bit like saying money cannot be created or destroyed. At any given instant it seems constant, morphing from one thing into another. But a LOT of people are now inclined to think it CAN be created and especially it can be destroyed [they look at their portfolios and believe]. Uncle Green$pan sits at the centre of the universe, creating and destroying $$$ and the multitudes of people in the periphery multiply or reduce what he created in an amazing credit inflationary universe [or deflationary]. Psst, keep an eye on the bearded old dude in the white robe behind the curtain - that's where the REAL truth is hiding and he's the one really pulling the superstrings of the universe.
