De-regulation of the telecomm industry went very well. Some other industry deregualtions, not exactly so well. I'll theorize without any proof <s>, that some of the credit goes to AT&T, a benign [though expensive] monopoly that didn't have the foggiest idea about competition. The industry was then allowed to develop without interference from AT&T, who was trying to figure out the concept of competition.
