Oh, man; what some of those cars go for on eBay is outrageous. You wonder what people are thinking, many cars aren't worth nearly what they are selling for.

But then some people have more money than sense. There was a guy who lived near me that had 40 antiques. Despised by the true car set, he left some of them out in the rain from time to time. So anyway, financial reversals forced them to bulk-sale them and they started with 12 cars. So the broker comes to me with a list, he wants to sell the 12 in one shot.

Seeing a '55 Vette on the list, I told him I would buy it sight-unseen for $30K. (This was about ten years ago). He comes back to me and tells me the consultant he is using warned him that I would be cheating myself and that selling me the car would damage our friendship. "Damage away," I said. "If I look at it I might offer up to $40K."

No deal. So, I find out a month later the guy who was the consultant bought all twelve cars for himself. Paid about $80K. Sold nine of them within a month for $85K and kept the best three for himself, a Nomad, a late fifties Caddy Convertible and of course the Vette.

Damn thing even had spare parts in the trunk. Like spare wires for the spark plugs. In those days the wiring harness came with CORVETTE in raised letters on the wires. The spare wires alone cannot be touched for less than a thousand dollars.

Some people have no sense at all. That guy collected 40 cars and did not have a clue what they were truly worth in the marketplace. I would have given him $40K for that one car alone.
