Yes, the "event" view of revelation is most prevalent in western religions, particularly the "big three" of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The east in general is more process oriented, but there are still singular figures like the Buddha, Confucius, Lao Tze, Krishna, etc. who are revered as divine or semi-divine.

One of the key differentiators is their views on reincarnation. The "event" religions tend to be "one shot" in their theology (though reincarnation is found in their mystical branches) while the "process" religions extend the cycles of life which are visible everywhere in the world to their theologies and take reincarnation as a given (though usually with the accretion of karma, but that's a whole other topic).
