The ratio of Market Capitalization to GDP has one flaw which is increasing with time. There is a definite trend to make a public corporation of more and more ot the economy. 50 years ago a large part of the capitalist enterprises was owned by people who did not go public because they were too small or they didn't want extra stockholders. Such private companies are relatively fewer and fewer. The paradigm is public trading so you can buy up functionally related companies with stock and pay talented employees with stock options. Or even involve most of the employees with stock ownership for a long term. I'm not arguing that 100% now doesn't mean that the stock market is expensive, simply that we may never see 60% again because of the trend. Except for the rare solo entrepreneurs, most everybody is getting absorbed into the stock system. Haircuts are still private but dry cleaning is often done by a publicly owned company. Restaurants vary. etc. etc. Supermarkets replace neighborhood groceries etc. etc.
