Correction: 5 to 10 years. And that's only if the option is indeed exercised, I guess.

Correct and many of those options are never exercised due to attrition or other reasons so the shares go back into the pool with a much lower cost basis than current FMV and are available to back new options granted at a new higher FMV. Hey, maybe Intel actually makes money on those instead of a push!
