but even on sidewalks and more-so on trails in many areas a light of some sort is needed to avoid obstructions & holes

Given the fact that DEKA already expects to get some lawsuits out of this product, I would think an intentional omission of headlights would be foolish. Kamen wants you to believe it's better than walking. Well, on a smooth flat surface I'm sure it is. However, you can't expect something with two wheels to glide gracefully over pot holes and ruts. Leaving out headlights is just asking for trouble IMHO. They may not allow the thing on sidewalks anyway. Having lights won't make any difference.
