From CNN:
"Zinni, whose visit to Israel has been plagued by a string of violence, was expected to deliver a list of 19 steps the United States wants the Palestinian Authority to take against the terrorist infrastructure within the next two days. The steps include not only arrests but also a crackdown on weapons and weapon manufacturing sites."

The US victory in Afghanistan starts to have legs in the war against terrorism. This in reality is a great opportunity for the Palestinian people and Arafat. Hard medicine but result can be two states finally living in peace regardless of how long it takes to actually become partners. The Palestinian people will soon realize much like the Afghans that they have no choice but to follow the US lead. For his part Sharon needs to grow in the job to facilitate this process and prevent the return of the dangerous Netenhayahooo who, unlike Sharon, buys into the greater Israel bull shit. Ask Cary for an alternate opinion. He still thinks i am clueless. I think the above is a pretty good view of a possibly good outcome. Dont bet the house though. mike
US has awesome responsibility to the world to keep the pressure up. Think of the poor Iraqi people who could be free in a year or two and so on. Part of the price of this for us is a technical loss of some civil liberties or things we assume to be civil liberties. The Carries of the world who are attacking Ashcroft are missing the point. What Ashcroft does here protects us from the forces that would diminish our spirit to continue this fight. For now i i will place my trust in the Bush team that they will not over reach too much and will always be listening to the opposition as a check on their actions. Also as this plays out a move away from the more repressive measures needs to come from them.
