Caesar spoke with one voice - we speak with many. I think to some extent he didn't fully understand what he was getting himself into. It's interesting to note that his dad was a military man - who fights for what he believes in. This appears to be what his son was doing. It also may be a rebellious action as he started down this path when he was 16 - dad fought for my country, I'm going to fight against it. In any event, he didn't make any effort to switch sides so the dye is cast.
