Did any of the analysts at Intel's conference call ask why AMD would be growing at least 10% while Intel only expects to grow between 2.4 and 5.4%?

a human is always needed for the most important 100 instructions in a program. but that's not my point.

I have a strong belief that really really good compilers for IA64 will never be written.

if you throw in a couple more "really"s, i'd agree but then that's true for x86 too. there will be good enough compilers to do majority of the work, the tiny bit which can't be handled as efficiently will be hand coded just as it is now. the more things change ...
