well no, you can simply change the order.. but again, most brokers are advanced enough these days so that if your order triggers before the cancel/change order goes in it will recognize it.. Again- I remember those 'old days' where you would suddenly be short the stock because it sold it twice : ) I know exactly where your coming from : ) but the stop order dosnt show as anything until the market makes a trade at that price.. I think another small setback is if you have a large account some folks claim market makers will reach for your stop.. I heard alot of arguements disputing that, and I think I accepted that if you use Ameritrade for example, NITE securities can see your stops and therefore will sometimes rob you to knock you out..but not every market maker can see your stop.. but remember- they are speculating just like you and I think IM better trader than their people : )

The one difficult thing for me with emotions and stops was the infamous coulda/shouldas that happen.. You struggle in the morning trying to decide where to put the stop, so you finally decide ok 19.78.. and what happens? the stock dips to say 19.77, and than skyrockets to a close of $23... and you just sit there dumbfounded looking at the chart all night crying in your beer.. but I gotta say, more often than not? My stop will trigger at say that 19.77? and the next morning the same stock is now trading at 17.. THAT feels good..
