National Semiconductor meets 1Q loss estimates; warns on 2Q - Sept. 6, 2001

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Investors were encouraged Thursday by stronger-than-expected financial results from National Semiconductor even after the company said its business in the current quarter will be weaker than Wall Street recently had thought.

At midday, National logged a fiscal second-quarter loss of $46.6 million, or 26 cents per share. That compares with a profit of 56 cents per share during the year-ago quarter and is a nickel per share less than the 31 cents per share analysts generally had expected the company to lose, according to a survey conducted by First Call.
