However, unless it is a "lot better" than 10% AMD would have to have a lot of losses in other areas. Maybe AMD is being aggressive on projecting CPU revenues (to bolster confidence in CPU position) but conservative on total revenues (to ward off more shareholder lawsuits)?

It doesn't necessarily have to be losses in the other business areas that reduces the bottom line. My guess is that AMD are planning to bring forward as many charges as they can, to bolster what could be a very weak Q1.

Patrick, Re: I agree that AMD could have a significant increase in CPU revenues (some unit gain but also big ASP gain from the dismal 3Q01 resulting from shift T-Bird -> XP and retail mobile) to meet the possible 40% CPU revenue increase to match 1Q01 record but this doesn't seem to be fully reflected in the "10% or better" total revenues.

I was wondering about that too. Either flash sales are terrible (not flat but down) or AMD is sandbagging with their overall revenue guidance. OTOH, the 40% CPU revenue increase seems extremely high to me. If we assume flat units ASPs had to climb to about $85 -- almost impossible IMO. So it looks like AMD will sell more than 8 million units with ASPs in the high $70 range. Quite an accomplishment. I didn't realize that completely yesterday so I have to take my assumption back that AMD probably lost unit market share.
