how does a young man who grew up in two hotbeds of beatniks and peaceniks, mill valley and san rafael, get into this mess?

He's a traitor. Especially if it's discovered that he approved of the WTC attacks.

Not it's whether he can present the case that his actions were dictated by his being brainwashed by this Islamic extremist theology.

I feel for his family, but every individual is responsible for their own choices in life.

As for Hanoi Jane... I understand she's finally apologized for her actions in Vietnam and that it was a terrible thing for her to do.

I'll give her the benefit of a doubt now... Although she provided aid and comfort, the circumstances were different in that we went to Vietnam to help defend the south, rather than as a response to an attack on the US homeland by N. Vietnam.

This is where I draw the line.. The minute one joins or cooperates with a group that has attacked, or advocates the destruction of one's country, they must be treated as a traitor.

John Walker maybe be partially responsible for the death of CIA agent Mike Spann.

msnbc.com

Last week, just hours before Taliban and Al Qaeda prisoners began their uprising at the Northern Afghan fortress of Kala Jangi, CIA agents interviewed John Walker, the 20-year-old American from northern California, NEWSWEEK has learned. The interrogation, which took place shortly before one of the agents was killed, was videotaped by an Afghan cameraman.

Re Walker, early CNN accounts indicated that he had admitted to participating in incursions into Kashmir. If it is true that he did this, then the Indian government would be justified in demanding his extradition to be tried in India for terrorism. In such an event, we should turn him over. Certainly we would demand extradition if an Indian citizen were to admit committing terroristic acts against the US.
