Fogg...as I recollect when Glaxco purchased Wellcome these two pharmaceutical giants (over 35,000 employees each) spread over 100 countries, they did the following.

1) Determined who would be the leaders of various departments (about 50 overall).

2) Had the employees of both companies re-apply for positions with detailed interviews by a panel of qualifiers.

3)Offerred outstanding severance packages to those not retained.

The merger went off smoothly...I have heard of very few complaints. I worked for one of those companies for 28 years and opted out at that time.

Unfortunately, almost always.
