WC,
Tough language! But i agree with the thrust of it. Jerome needs to look at the 9/11 video again. Americans tend to forget how severe that attack was and what it was all about. To find the blind sheik or the paraplegic shiek involves some inconveniences for many muslims i am sure. If i were one, i would be willing to bear it in order to catch the bad guys. One caveat, we must be vigilant that this doesnt get out of control. I dont think we are anywhere near that place yet, but its the nature of things to overreach. So we need to be careful. mike

FRD's actions were not constitutional in WW2 and Ashcroft's actions are not constitutional today.

Ashcroft is pandering to public opinion and apparently you took the the bait.

There is equal concerns from the left and the right about the rights of citizens and the rights of terrorists.

Lets get the bastards and get them in the right way. Freedom cannot be protected by denying it to some on a selective basis. (WW2 Japanese and today's Inquisition of Arab suspects). Charge them, Deport them or Release them.

Another interesting Day on this thread...

Willcousa,

>The left continues to prattle about poor benighted "immigrants" while we are dealing with illegal alien terrorists.<

Unfortunately, the left has always been more worried about its agenda of expanded individual rights than it has worried about dealing with reality . They conveniently IGNORE the fact that nearly 4000 innocent American civilians are dead......they IGNORE the fact that there are still 40 - 50,000 fundamentalist terrorists, trained by the Taliban, that are still running around, with no retirement plans; a lot of them here in the U.S.......they IGNORE the fact that the terrorists are warriors sans uniforms, a species most often recognized as spies or infiltrators, and one that has always been treated with virtually no rights, no matter what theatre they lurk in.....they IGNORE the fact that the tribunals have a legitimate foundation in our historical past......they IGNORE the fact that swift, hard justice is one thing that fundamentalists seem to understand,........and they conveniently IGNORE the fact that nearly 70% of the American public is in favor of tribunals. This last one is easy to understand, since the left ALWAYS runs counter to majority thinking. I believe it fits in with their presumed assumption of superior intellectual and moral authority.
They seem to think they invented the idea of civil liberties and have a lock on what constitutes the scope of them.

Finally, their arguments ALWAYS leave unsaid that the tribunals don't pertain to AMERICAN CITIZENS. But again, why recognize reality, the AGENDA is more important.

BTW, I sent Ashcroft a letter the other day expressing my gratitude for standing up for the majority for a change, especially in the face of the attack from the left, and encouraged him to hold his ground.

Regards,

Knip
