This is true, if you write accurate custom formulas for the candlestick patterns. But if you use the canned Metastock functions, the system test results won't be good, because the canned functions don't accurately code the candlestick formations. Of course, there are many differing viewpoints on the definitions, and coding them isn't always easy.

Some users run a few system tests on candlesticks with the Metastock functions and dismiss their usefulness. They may have succeeded in dismissing the usefulness of the canned functions, but that's about it.

I've seen some very effective systems based on custom formulations of candlestick patterns.
