don't you think that an economy which continuously keeps peeling of "bottom performers" is really sinking? Yes bottom performers are gone and hopefully that is about it. However, if companies like Ford and GM close plants beyond the minor reductions then I would lose optimism about recovery in early 2002. I would confirm any statistics that indicate business inventories are being dramatically worked off. I am still awaiting evidence of consistent new demand that would allow healthy rebuilding of inventories one would expect in recovery phase of the economy.
