"You want the capacity to be reduced to keep the yield numbers good. That will work but you're calling AMD a liar when they said they were constrained. "

Personally I think that AMD resorted to building what they have orders for, plus a certain percentage. I suspect they also do have a significantly lower yield than Intel, if you define yield as the number of chips that test good and meet or exceed some minimum speed grade. So those lower bins wind up being keyfobs and dumpster filler. I don't think that Fab25 has been running at anywhere near maximum all this year. AMD was originally making noises about most of their sales being Durons, but Durons have never amounted to much more than half of their unit sales. Clearly the capability of making those chips had to come from somewhere...

Elmer, I don't recall hearing about capacity constraints WRT CPUs except possibly WRT Dresden output. What I remember is:

"we are selling virtually everything we are making in fab 30. So, as we move to the new product, we are selling everything out, so any inventory builds are ramping up the new product, so I fell very comfortable with that."

That's not saying anything about everything they could make or FAB 25 production.

I'd like you to show me where AMD claimed capacity constraints on 7.7 units in q3. I'd settle for the same for Q2.

I don't think you can, but if you can I'd appreciate it if you would.
