$2.5 billion for GPRS
"A few hundred million" for EDGE
$1 billion for 3G (presumably WCDMA)

look where they're spending the most money. and follow the money. 2.5G is where it's at imo.


It really has nothing do with the respective technologies. The back end of the wireless network is the same for GPRS, EDGE and W-CDMA. AWE is required to overlay their entire network with this new core network to deploy GPRS. The move to EDGE and W-CDMA will only involve changes to the Radio Access Network (RAN).

Docomo didnt give $10 Billion to AWE for nothing....they will have to deploy a nationwide W-CDMA network. The only question is the timing. I believe the original deal called for 13 out of the top 50 markets by June '04....
