A few reasons why AMD's AthWiper MP has been such a disaster !

amazoninternational.com

Finally please note this important information.

1. These units have been designed to work & run under Windows 2000/NT and not under Windows ME or Windows 98SE. We will not be held responsible for systems installed with Windows ME / 98 and found not to work.

2. It has been uncovered that the installation of Windows 2000 Server Software Raid set-up causes major board conflicts to resources. After some very high level discussions it has been strongly recommended that this option of Windows 2000 is not implemented to the board and that a proper hardware raid card is used.

If you implement this set-up both Tyan and ourselves will not be held responsible for systems installed with Windows 2000 Server Software Raid and found not to work

3. Installation of non MP processors on the board can cause catastrophic failure of the CPU or board and will null & void any warranty both with Tyan & AMD. You are recommended to purchase CPU's which are validated from this source.

4. We strongly recommend that you use only the listed approved memory above. Too many bizarre memory issues and failures are now being seen by 3rd party memory suppliers that are not approved by Tyan. All memory modules listed above is from the approved list and the biggest problem seen on the Tyan Tiger MP is unapproved memory. AMD does also have an approved list of memory modules, though again this is not all approved by Tyan for this motherboard.

Elmer,

There was a question in their CC where Hector was asked if they were demand limited of capacity. Hector replied capacity.

I remember it as well, and I remember saying to myself "BS". But when you enter Clintonian logic, and assume they started processing only so many wafers, to meet what they can realistically expect to sell, the supply and demand is matched, and you can float a statement about being capacity limited, and not be lying outright. It sure sounds better than saying "we made all these processors and se can't sell them". I think PR goals are intermixed with facts in these statements, and you need take them with a grain of salt.
