Mike...I don't call politicians names... (posters yes...sometimes you)....

Its the neutral people of the thread and elsewhere that drive me nuts... Willcousa and others bring a little spice to the thread...

No one is going to call the posters on this thread wishy-washy...and that's the way it should be.

Concerning my uncle... He entered the military with a sixth grade education (he was from Kentucky)...by the time he finished his third tour of duty he had a Phd, and was hired by Case Western where he taught until his death. The military did him good.

Mike/Willcousa/Dale... Government Failures

Chris Mathews on Hardball tonight said...over 1000 people have been arrested..about 600 are still in custody and not.....NOT ONE PERSON IN DETENTION....had any knowledge of, or participated in the Sept. 11 attacks.

So where does all this lead.... My views are the following:

The Detention of these Arab men gives the American people a sense that terrorists are in custody and that progress is being made on this front.

Ashcroft will take the heat for these detentions. Bush is keeping his distance.I have not heard any resounding endorsement by Bush of the Ashcroft actions.

The planes that crashed may have eliminated complete cells of terrorists.

The Bush war on terrorism gets 100% endorsement as long as the war continues in Afghanistan. But the long list of terrorist organizations posted by Tito on the other thread, covers a large span of countries that will in no way let us conduct operations on their soil. Do you really think that Turzkbeckistan and Urzbeckistan are going to let us hunt the Taliban and BL on their soil?

So where are the terrorists...I think they are scattered around Europe. And if they are found they will not be deported to this country as long as Ashcroft insists on Military tribunals. Too many people died from these kind tribunals in the last 75 years.

I think it was on Chris Mathews program yesterday that a Constitutional Scholar said that the terrorists could be tried in a regular Federal Court with the following conditions.

1) No cameras, no audience , no press, no press coverage of any kind, no publicity period.
2) Trial by Judge or Jury as desired.

4) Representation for the accused by a competent lawyer.

5) Results of the trial could be released 10 years later.(if then)

This has already taken place in the US and the result was the incarceration of Arab terrorists (I think it was the Arabs responsible for the Embassy in Africa)

Bush is right, Its going to be a very long fight....And Ashcroft will take the fall for the abuse of the Civil Rights of the current detainees.
