Joe,

re: you tell me how it is that we are in the first year in history, when the YOY PC sales are down, Intel percentage share of this shrinking number is lower, capacity of Intel fabs is higher, and still, Intel cannot supply this shrinking market.

First, it not a shrinking market, at least right now (seasonal or not, it's currently expanding). My "theroy" is simply what Intel says, that the accelerated push to P4 on a larger die limits production, until they can get to .13 and larger wafers. That may or may not turn out to be good timing, depending on the economic climate next year.

There is some disconnect between PC unit sales and microprocessor sales. Can't figure that one, unless a whole lot of folks are upgrading cpu's without replacing units. Intel has been saying for a couple of quarters thet the disty white box market is expanding faster than any other market, I wonder how good the PC analysis groups are at capturing these Ma and Pa shop sales numbers.

The unit market share numbers are open to debate, a debate I really don't want to get into because we are talking small numbers for Intel (though fairly significant for AMD), and it's a boring circular debate with no end. If there were currently a significant share change it might be interesting.
