I have known some mentally ill people. And I would say that some think they choose knowing and some think they have their knowing thrust upon them. And I think being inside the box of yourself, you can have no idea what kind of knowing you have. I have no idea whether I chose or whether I was thrust. I get the feeling that I was born with the sense of logic and reason that I have now- because I have always been unmystical. And I suspect we are simply wired for belief or we are not. The people I have met who are most like me have always been the way they are. They didn't fall away from faith, they simply never had it. And the people who fall away from one faith frequently look for another. So in my opinion the world is composed of two sets of people. People who are not wired for belief seem to be a smaller set. There might be a reason for that, or there might not.
