Ahh....so you would just ignore him. The fact is he has been places and met people that the CIA is now learning about. That may save lives in the long run. So as stupid and dull witted as he is in your opinion, its worth spending some time on him. The rest is political hash....no body wants to get near him.

All study of history and events is vicarious. But its how some people learn and profit from the experiences of others. I've read some pretty strange stories of people picked up and swept along in the violent tide of war. It makes me very hesitant to judge individuals, and aware that not all is at it seems to be. That doesn't mean I don't recognize the vicious and mad, it just means that most lives are never as simple (or as stupid) as they may seem.he problem is not that people spend time trying to understand what is happening. The problem is that most people haven't even tried to figure out the world around them. You seem to want to damn everyone who does not think exactly like you and abandon (your idea of) stupid things. That's pretty much what the Taliban was saying until they got carried away with it and decided to force everyone to abandon stupid things.

And as far as romanticizing hapless stupidity, well that's pretty much the definition of war. I don't need to romanticize it to try and understand it, nor to accept that sometimes its inevitable.

And I agree with you that having him walk and then go on TV talk shows would be idiotic. But I accept that as a very likely reality in view of the alternatives. Its as nuts as having someone who worked the guns in Hanoi going on to marry the top media mogul in the US. Or a gun toting bank robbing moll being given a free pass to go home to her mansion. Or some famous guy who has slaughtered a few people walking by me in the airport. Or a Vietnam vet I know pulling a 45 out of his belt because the guy next to us in the restaurant wont put his cigarette out....because he was 'Sick and tired of stupid people won't obey the damn 'no smoking section' signs'.
