"Unfortunately for the last decade there was lack of interest among Americans to pursue advanced degrees in science and engineering".

Tom,
You may have opened a whole can of worms there. While I am not at liberty to discuss science and engineering, I did study medicine at McGill and can tell you that there is limited number of spaces with a fixed percentage allotted to foreigners, thus putting the squeeze on domestic students. The majority of foreign graduates never leave thus further decreasing local demand for domestic students with dreams of being doctors. This issue was documented recently on “60 minutes”, but I can tell you the same issue is occurring here in Canada.

Tom,re:"$31000". That's a problem. But there is no solution for that.

I still have to contribute this as the "nature's way of equalization".
I do see USA is on the 'glide path' (down). Hopefully, we are not cloning
a 'middle east situation' or other 'world conflict' in our own backyard.

If '911-event' is so tramatic that we spend 'billions' to correct the problem,
this silent '$31000 a year PROBLEM' (sorry don't have the right term for it)
will be just as painful, though in a very, very, very slow way and less as
tramatic.

With asset inflation and 'NO wage presure' due to billions of available
talents from around the world, it's not going to be a pretty sight for the
'Spoiled Americans'. One can be generous and kind while one can afford.

When survival becomes necessity, all those 'love' would have to give way
to the nature's rule. Even the TV shows is promoting the 'true environment
of nature' ---> Do anything to survive.
