Engineer: Once they figure out that the real killer app is the channel itself and just turn it on at a low bulk rate (like 3 cents a mintue all minutes all the time) or just a few cents per megabyte, then it will take off.

Now for your last point....."not make it near free"....aren't you the "data is free" guy? Too much beer tonight?

But, that is my point!! Verizon just spent 9 Billion on new spectrum because they claim they need more capacity.. Why would Verizon take spectrum that they can charge .15 cents a minute with voice traffic, and invest Billions more in infrastructure and monthly back haul charges so that they can sell the same spectrum for 3 cents a minute?

Right now, PCS and VZ charge you the same per MOU fee if you use voice or data.. Now, you want them to invest billions of dollars to support High Speed Data, and expect them the reduce their MOU charge by 80%?

As far as data is free.. I have said that the perception to the public at large (Wireless Customers) is that Data is near free. I can go to my local library and use all of the data I want for free! They won't let me use their phones and make unlimited LD calls!!

The "medium channel" is already there!! The wireless service providers are just another ISP.. But, unlike a typical ISP where the user pays his local LEC for the usually "unlimited connection method" and the ISP provides the connection to the medium.. For the Wireless Service Providers..They are providing the entire link. And the spectrum that provides this "link" is how they make money.. And I don't think that these service providers have any incentive to price their data services "LOWER" than their voice services.. Will the consumer that views DATA as a lower life form than voice be willing to pay MORE for DATA?
