I was just browsing a bit deeper into the web offerings of Promarkt. It is really worth a look!

When you click on "Desktops" (in the category "Computer") you see a "Top Seller" and a "Kauftip" (means "special recommendation"). Both PCs have AMD processors.

See promarkt.de

You can also click on "Sehen Sie alle Desktops auf einen Blick ..." (means "see all desktops at one glance") and you get quite a long list of PCs. All but one are AMD based! Most of them are Athlon XPs, some even have GeForce 3 graphics cards.

See promarkt.de

When you click on "Laptops" you see a "Top Seller", which is a Sony notebook with Duron 800: promarkt.de

The "Kauftip" (special recommendation), however, is a notebook with Intel PIII 1000. When you click on "Sehen Sie alle Laptops auf einen Blick ..." you get a list of mostly Intel based notebooks. There are only 2 Sony notebooks with AMD processors. (The other one besides the "Top Seller" has an Athlon 4 1000 processor).

This corresponds with my general observation here: Athlon desktops are very popular in the private sector in Germany, however AMD has to work on its notebook presence. It is encouraging, though, that the Sony notebook with Duron processor is marked as "Top Seller" at Promarkt.

PS: The electronic store chain Promarkt has 81 very large stores in Germany. Karstadt (the department store chain mentioned in my previous post) has over 200 very large stores. PLUS (the grocery store chain which offers the Athlon XP 1700+ with nForce chipset) has 2700 stores in Germany and additional stores in 6 other European countries. I have no exact information about Lidl.
