Some nForce systems are selling through into retail:

I finally got the nforce board yesterday. Building the new system was very easy. Mounting the board, installing the 1600+ and Corsair 512, and doing the rest took approximately an hour. Performed a fresh install of Win2000 Pro, installed the unified drivers and here I am. The cool thing about looking inside the case is that it looks kinda empty without the usual add-in boards. The system is fast and so far it hasn't hiccuped once. I'm not overclocking and I'll let you know if I experience any stability problems. The graphic capabilities might not be up to par for some but I'm very impressed. Sound is fine, and the NIC works very well. If you can get this board for around $150, Neye this might be an ideal solution for your workstation plan. From my limited experience with the board, I feel comfortable recommending it. Good luck,
D

Dan,

I do not think that PLUS and Lidl had originally planned to make two PC promotions in such a short time. It seems that both were overwhelmed by their prior success.

It is also interesting to note that all these promotion PCs are Athlons XPs 1700+ or better. Similarly, all the Athlon XP PCs offered at Promarkt start at 1700+.

It is a shame that the "Karstadt PC" (with Athlon 1800+) has been sold out so quickly. Also sold out is their PC with Athlon XP 1700+. There are only models left with Athlon 1400, Athlon 1200 and Celeron 1000. Next time, Karstadt should double their orders...

(It's a missed opportunity. Now, during the Christmas buying season, there are billions of people invading the Karstadt stores every day...)
